Message from the CEO - Setting Goals for 2019

13 Dec 2018

What an amazing year!

This year Can Too trained our 15,000th program participant and we fundraised $20 Million for cancer research and prevention.

We’re looking forward to increasing this figure to $50 million by 2030 to, in swim program champion Lyndal Keith’s words, ‘kick cancer’s butt’. See her story on why she is addicted to Can Too.

To help us fight and prevent cancer we’re looking forward to having you join us to reach some life changing goals next year from New York Marathon training to Trekking Mt Kilimanjaro and many local events in our 2019 calendar.

An important reason for why we CAN TOO is that this year one of the cancer researchers, whose work is made possible by your fundraising, Dr Ana Janic, was part of a team which discovered how the most important gene in preventing human cancer, p53, is able to stop the development of blood cancers.

So as we head into Christmas, and you make plans for the New Year, know that what we’re doing as a community is making a difference and take some time to ponder what your next Can Too challenge will be.

Give the Gift of Can Too

Taking part in a Can Too program — be it a run, swim or a hike — brings a multitude of physical and mental health benefits from being active and from undertaking altruistic efforts to beat cancer.

So why not give the gift or good health. You can now give (or ask for) a Can Too gift voucher for Christmas! Gift vouchers are now available for all our programs – you can purchase training vouchers in the Can Too Shop.

You Can Win A Lexus

Imagine winning a brand new Lexus Luxury ($45,629 value)! Single tickets are available for $20 and 100% of proceeds support the Can Too Foundation.  Buy Raffle Tickets

New Referral Rewards

For those who missed it, you now get a 25% fundraising reward for every first-timer you introduce to Can Too.

This is a revised program, in response to your feedback, that’s simpler and more generous, rewarding you for growing our community and allowing you to participate more often.

I’m so proud of our community getting behind this initiative so far. We’re working on ways to reward our best ambassadors in the New Year so watch this space!

Our Swim Programs are Breaking Records

This summer we’ve again broken our ocean swim records! We’ve nearly 20 per cent bigger than last season, and are launching four new swim programs starting in February to offer more choice to our community, see the list below:

International Marathons

Will 2019 be the year you conquered an overseas marathon? Survey feedback showed you wanted input selecting international marathons and longer lead times to plan for them. Earlier this year we conducted a survey which received hundreds of responses – and the results are in!

The first marathon to cross the starting line will be Hawke’s Bay Marathonstarting next week! New York Marathon starts training again in June and we’ve penciled in London and Honolulu for 2020.

Can Too New York Marathon registrations include free registration for our SMH Half Marathon program, which is our way of making sure you’re running fit and ready to take on The Big Apple when marathon training starts in June!

Brooks Giveaways

All our training programs now come with a chance to WIN Brooks Shoes! Congratulations to Catriona Martin (Sydney Trail Series) and Justin Gasper (Hawke’s Bay Marathon) as our first two winners. To enter the draw, just sign up for a Can Too program before the cut-off dates. It’s that easy! And one more way we’re creating value for our community.

RunWest Fun Run

We’re proud to be the Official Training Partner for the inaugural NAB RunWest– the first running festival dedicated to Greater Western Sydney. As a new event, with new locations, we’re giving away a pair of running shoes to a lucky participant within each RunWest pod.

To also help some of our newest runners put their best foot forward we’re also providing RunWest coaching content, read on for Coach James Constantine’s tips on how to build up to a 12km race and you can check out Coach Catherine Bolshesolsky’s strength and conditioning tips for runners. We can’t wait to start training for this event mid-January!

Thank You for an Amazing Year!

Thank you to all of our Can Too community for your continued support of our programs, whether you trained with us, donated to someone who was, volunteered, or are just on the subscriber list and telling friends and family when exciting opportunities come up – you are an important part of our community.

I wish you and your loved ones all the best for a Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and an inspiring New Year.

With regards,

Peter McLean
