Become A Half Marathoner

... and help us beat cancer!

About this program

This program is for all runners looking to train in a fun, safe, group environment for the Half Marathon distance whilst fundraising for cancer research. On the weekend of 9-10 January you will achieve your goal by running 21kms with your Can Too tribe, whether that is the Cadbury Half Marathon in Hobart or an alternative single or multi-day challenge here at home.

If you're concerned about your ability, please contact us. We'd love to help you set a suitable goal.

As a registered Australian charity, all our programs fundraise for cancer research — it's an important part of why we do what we do.

This is an ideal event for anyone looking to increase their kms and achieve that Half Marathon distance. Already in a Can Too 10km program? Why not carry that fitness into Half Marathon training?

Mid-week interval training typically covers:

  • understanding injury prevention
  • presentations by guest speakers.

Saturday distance runs typically:

  • focus on running form
  • build endurance
  • improve mental focus
  • work on pacing and race strategy.

Fundraising

In recognition of the current extraordinary circumstances, we have revised fundraising targets.

By raising $675 you will meet your minimum fundraising commitment and become a Fundraising Star.

If you go above and beyond, you could become a Silver Fundraising Star ($995) or even a Gold Fundraising Star ($1,350)

Fundraising will return to normal in future programs as our economy heals.

Travel Advisory

It may not be possible to travel to Hobart on the weekend of 9-10 January 2021 due to Government restrictions. Under those circumstances, Can Too will use its best efforts to provide an alternative single or multi-day challenge in Sydney so you can run with your tribe.

At the time of writing, the Cadbury Marathon festival events remain scheduled for 10 January 2021 with registrations due to open in September.

The Tasmanian State Government is currently adopting a cautious approach to travellers arriving from NSW who, if not excluded from travel for other reasons, are currently required to enter hotel quarantine for 14 days from the date of entry into Tasmania.

Whilst we are hopeful that these restrictions will have eased by January next year, it is important that anyone who registers for the Cadbury events and/or is making travel arrangements to go to Hobart, is aware of the current situation. See the latest information here.

What is Bronze level fundraising?

In recognition of the current extraordinary circumstances, we have revised fundraising targets.

By raising $675 you will meet your minimum fundraising commitment and become a Fundraising Star.

If you go above and beyond, you could become a Silver Fundraising Star ($995) or even a Gold Fundraising Star ($1,350)

Do I have to fundraise?

Yes, you have to fundraise in return for your 14 week coached training program. Don’t let that worry you too much, we’ve been doing this since 2005 so we have plenty of resources available to help you achieve your fundraising goal. Plus, you’ll have a Team Captain and Mentor/s to guide you through. The best approach is to have a plan and to start early.

Where does the money go?

When you fundraise for the Can Too Foundation, you're fundraising for Australian cancer research and prevention. We focus on investing in early career cancer researchers across all cancer types.

For every tax-deductible dollar in FY18/19 we received:

  • 71% went to cancer research
  • 29% went to cancer prevention.

What if I don't meet my commitment?

Can Too has been teaching people to run and raise funds for cancer research for fifteen years. We know that if you put your mind to it and work hard you CAN TOO help fund Australia's most promising cancer research projects. You have until 30 days after your goal race to meet your commitment, and we continue working with you until options are exhausted.

How long do I have to fundraise?

The good news is that you have until 30 days after your program finishes to meet your commitment to cancer research and prevention. You'll have an active fundraising page from the moment you sign up, so our suggestion is sign up early!
