About this program

This program is for all runners looking to train in a fun, safe, group environment for the Half Marathon distance whilst fundraising for cancer research. On the weekend of 30 May 2021 you will achieve your goal by running 21kms with your Can Too tribe at the Barossa Half Marathon.

If there are restrictions on interstate travel there will be the option to choose the goal race the Sydney Morning Herald Half Marathon.

If in the event of mass participation events being restricted Can Too will host a grand finale run to celebrate the conclusion of the program, so you can achieve your running goal with your Can Too team. Please see a video below of the 2021 Run into Summer grand finale.

If you're concerned about your ability, please contact us. We'd love to help you set a suitable goal.

As a registered Australian charity, all our programs fundraise for cancer research — it's an important part of why we do what we do.

This is an ideal event for anyone looking to increase their kms and achieve that Half Marathon distance. Already in a Can Too 10km program? Why not carry that fitness into Half Marathon training?

We're excited to train for a destination Half Marathon in the Barossa and are looking forward to you joining us. If you are unable to travel to the Barossa, or have an alternate goal event in mind, you are still encouraged to join this program.

Training format

You'll train twice per week under the guidance of a supportive, experienced running coach.

Mid-week interval training typically covers:

  • how to run more efficiently

  • presentations by guest speakers.

Saturday distance runs typically:

  • focus on running form
  • build endurance
  • improve mental focus
  • work on pacing and race strategy.

By raising $1350 you will meet your minimum fundraising commitment and become a Fundraising Star.

If you go above and beyond, you could become a Silver Fundraising Star ($1650) or even a Gold Fundraising Star ($1950)

We  Half Marathon's

... and you will too!

The Barossa Marathon Festival is held every year starting in the scenic vineyard-surrounded Tanunda. The event attracts runners from right across the world, wanting to challenge their fitness levels in the marathon (42.2km), half marathon (21.1km), 10km and 5km events. The course is very flat, perfect for those wanting a quick time or ‘personal best’.

The Festival is also Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS) certified, meaning the event can be used to get a qualifying time for other international AIMS events, including Boston Marathon.

Feel the landscape. Meet the people. Experience the Barossa.

... common fundraising questions.

What is Bronze level fundraising?

By raising $1350 you will meet your minimum fundraising commitment and become a Fundraising Star.

If you go above and beyond, you could become a Silver Fundraising Star ($1650) or even a Gold Fundraising Star ($1950)

Do I have to fundraise?

Yes, you have to fundraise in return for your 14 week coached training program. Don’t let that worry you too much, we’ve been doing this since 2005 so we have plenty of resources available to help you achieve your fundraising goal. Plus, you’ll have a Team Captain and Mentor/s to guide you through. The best approach is to have a plan and to start early.

Where does the money go?

When you fundraise for Can Too Foundation, you're fundraising for Australian cancer research and prevention. We focus on investing in early career cancer researchers across all cancer types. Can Too Foundation has not been immune to the current economic downturn but, through the support of our community, has honoured all commitments to fund 11 researchers in 2020 and provided for funding for a further 8 researchers in 2021. As a registered charity, we will always be careful with every single dollar we spend and completely transparent in our reporting.

What if I don't meet my commitment?

Can Too has been teaching people to run and raise funds for cancer research for fifteen years. We know that if you put your mind to it and work hard you CAN TOO help fund Australia's most promising cancer research projects. You have until 30 days after your goal race to meet your commitment, and we continue working with you until options are exhausted.

How long do I have to fundraise?

The good news is that you have until 30 days after your program finishes to meet your commitment to cancer research and prevention. You'll have an active fundraising page from the moment you sign up, so our suggestion is sign up early!
