Sydney Ocean Swim 1km Sydney 2016

Massive Ocean Training Session Today

The conditions looked perfect for swimming at 'lake' Bondi this morning. That was until we got out the back! Despite the large swell, we swam from point to point. I swam around 1.7km (crazy!!)

Looks like the training has worked :-)

Thanks to all my Sponsors, hoping to make you proud next weekend at the Palm Beach Little Big Swim.

Holiday Swimming

The weather over the Christmas break was a bit unpredictable. I managed to get in three training sessions at the beach. The first session was at Balmoral Beach. The challenge here wasn't the swim, but the walk up Awaba St to get to the car afterwards!

The second session was at Clovelly on Christmas Day. There was a big swell, with the waves breaking over the concrete up to the stairs. For those who know Clovelly, they'll know that this is very different from the calm conditions generally experienced here. I managed about 20min in the water before I felt like I was in a washing machine and tumbled back onto dry land.

My last beach session for the year was with the Cantoo group at Manly on New Years Eve. It was a glorious day with a great turn out. We swam from Manly to Shelly Beach and back. On the way we spotted sting rays, schools of fish and swam through a bloom of jellyfish. Despite being terrified swimming through the jellyfish I made it back to Manly unharmed.

Fingers crossed 2016 brings good weather for my races!

Where is the sunshine?

During the first week of training I was promised sunshine and warmth at our Bondi Beach sessions. It's week 3 and I've yet to see the sun come out over Bondi Beach. Luckily the water is warm!

This week I had some sad news from some old work colleagues in the UK, our boss Marc had passed away from lung cancer. Marc was an intelligent, witty and caring man, with a great sense of fun. He took up new challenges with out hesitation, like joining our corportate Ultimate Frisbee team, The Cutterheads. He had never played Ultimate Frisbee before, but he gave it his all on the field often out running the younger opposition to discrupt their goal scoring attempts.

Marc - You will always be an inspiration.

Week 2

Week 2 of training, and it's another grey, windy day at Bondi. Luckily for us, the water temp was warm!

Despite the conditions, we had a great time in the water. The highlight today was learning how to catch a wave in!

Can't wait until next week

I'm training with Can Too for the 1km Ocean Swim!

I am training for an event with Can Too, a health promotion organisation that engages and inspires individuals and the community to achieve personal health, wellbeing and altruistic goals.

Beginners and experienced athletes alike are given professional coaching as part of a team to run or swim in endurance events- including 10km, half-marathon and marathon runs; as well as ocean swims and triathlons.

In return, I am raising valuable funds that go towards innovation in the prevention, care and control of cancer. In 2014, our Can Too community has supported 19 early career researchers through Cure Cancer Australia.

Thank you for supporting me!

‘It’s so much fun and I can’t believe I’m going to achieve this goal that I never thought possible. A great program and team support is making it possible. You Can Too!’
