Sydney 2km or 2.5km Ocean Swim 2016

My Updates

Palm Beach Swim

Monday 1st Feb

Since last November I’ve been training twice a week with CanToo as part of a fundraising swim programme and yesterday we swam the first part of our goal swim at Palm Beach. If the ocean’s not your happy place, 12 weeks of swimming through it can feel like a long time. Aside from the mental and physical hurdles, CanToo comes with a fundraising challenge. My personal goal is to raise $1250 that goes towards funding brilliant, innovative cancer researchers. Since 2005, training programs through Cantoo have raised over $15million which has provided seed funding to young researchers with innovative ideas, enabling them to pursue projects that are the most promising in their potential to cure cancer. We’re not mindlessly funding a faceless cause, we’re funding real people who can make an actual difference to those battling cancer.

My training continues for the next two weeks with our 2km final swim on the 14th of Feb in Bondi.

If you’ve got a couple of $$ to spare, would love your help reaching my fundraising target!

Underwater Swearing

Thursday 28th Jan

If you're prone to overthinking - the ocean is not the friend. It's unpredictable, has a mind of its own, sharks call it home, and the only way out is to swim through your fear.

Every Saturday morning for the past 12 weeks, I've been underwater swearing my way through the ocean, training for the big swim. Many a panic attack has been had and not that the ocean needs to get any saltier, but many a tear has been shed.

It's not only a mental challenge, but a physical challenge too. On a recent training swim in Manly on a training swim, the shark alarm went off and being half deaf, I didn't hear it. I did, however, notice everybody swimming in the opposite direction, quickly!

Part of the challenge of the12 week program is to raise funds for Cure Cancer Australia. It's an amazing program that raises valuable funds that go towards the prevention, care and control of cancer. Last year alone the Can Too community supported 19 early career researchers through Cure Cancer Australia.

So, this Sunday I'm swimming the big swim, the red line on the photo that goes all the way from Palm Beach to Whale Beach. It's a bloody long way and I'm starting to shit myself.

I'd love your support in helping me reach my target and funding Australian scientists working in cancer research through Cure Cancer Australia and Cancer Council NSW.

(also, last week I swam into a shark, I swear he winked at me and told me if I don't reach my target he'll eat me)

Thank you to everyone who has made a donation towards my goal
