I'm a total beginner - is this program for me?
add remove

This program is designed to support people who already have some running experience, as a marathon can be quite the challenge! If you're looking to get into running, we recommend keeping an eye out for our other run programs - we support people to run other distances of 5km, 10km and half marathons.

With some running experience under your belt already, our Coaches will be there guiding you along this journey to help you confidently achieve a marathon by the end of the program.

What can I expect during my training sessions?
add remove

Your first session of the week will typically cover:

- How to run more efficiently
- Improving core strength
- Proper breathing techniques
- Understanding injury prevention
- Talks from guest speakers

Your second session of the week will typically cover:

- Focusing on running form
- Building endurance
- Improving mental focus
- Working on pacing and race strategy

Do I need to fundraise?
add remove

Yes! When you sign up to our Marathon program, you are making a commitment to raise $1,700 throughout your journey with us. These funds are so vital to ensure we can continue our work, from our fitness programs to funding crucial cancer research that is changing and saving lives.

If you have a charity place with us for the TCS Sydney Marathon 2026, then your fundraising target will be $3,000. You will need to pay the program fee to take part in the Marathon program, but you will not have the additional $1,700 fundraising target, as we think $3,000 is already enough to focus on!

You can apply for a charity place with us here, while spots last.

I have a TCS Sydney Marathon charity place with CanToo - do I still need to fundraise if I take part in the Marathon training program?
add remove

If you have a charity place with us for the TCS Sydney Marathon 2026, then your fundraising target will be $3,000, which you will need to raise via your Grassrootz fundraising page that is set up for you.

You will need to pay the program fee to take part in the Marathon program, but you will not have the additional $1,700 fundraising target, as we think $3,000 is already enough to focus on!

You can apply for a charity place with us here, while spots last.

How much does it cost to take part?
add remove

To take part in our Marathon program, you will need to pay a program fee of $580 upfront at registration. This covers the cost of all your training, and we think it's quite the deal!

Until 1 March, you can save $50 off your program fee with the code MARA50.

What if I don't hit my fundraising target?
add remove

If you're concerned about hitting your fundraising target, don't worry! We will be here every step of the way with tips and tricks to help you reach your goal. Plus, your fellow CanToo-ers that you'll be training with will also be able to share inspiration for fundraising.

We suggest getting yourself started with a self-donation - it'll get you on your way and make your target feel all the more achieveable!

Why should I join a CanToo program, rather than a run club?
add remove

While run clubs can be a fun social activity, our CanToo programs are led by qualified and experienced Coaches with a full training plan provided, to help you reach your goals.

Our program can also offer you:
- Warm up routines (joint prep, muscle activation)
- Cool-down and stretching tips
- Basic mobility exercises for hips, knees and ankles
- Guidance on when to push yourself, and when to rest
- A safe space to run in a friendly environment, from running in a group, to ensuring you're not injuring yourself - your safety is important to us.
- The chance to make a difference for an amazing cause!

I don't have a place in the TCS Sydney Marathon - how can I get one?
add remove

You can apply for a charity place with CanToo here!

But be quick - we only have a very limited number of spots left!

With a charity place, you will be required to raise a minimum of $3,000. If you choose to also take part in our Marathon training program, you will need to pay the program fee, but your fundraising target will remain at $3,000. You will not be required to raise the additional $1,700 program fundraising target.

I have a ballot place for the TCS Sydney Marathon - do I still need to fundraise for the Marathon training program?
add remove

Congrats on your ballot place! If you choose to support CanToo with your ballot place, we ask that you raise as much as you can! This can be done via the Grassrootz platform.

But if you take part in our Marathon training program, you will be required to pay the program fee and raise the $1,700 program fundraising target.

The difference you can make

By taking part in our Marathon program, not only will you be challenging yourself and improving your own health and fitness, but the money you raise throughout the program could help change and save the lives of other people too.

Every dollar you raise will help CanToo's ongoing work, from supporting our growing portfolio of programs (just like this one!) to funding new and innovative early-career cancer researchers who are looking to find new ways to prevent, treat and ultimately cure cancer.

Signing up today is the first step you can take to make a wonderful difference for people in Australia and around the world.
