Swim around Keppel

I'm supporting cancer research and the health of people in Australia

Roughly 1 in 2 of us will receive a cancer diagnosis in our lifetime. I'm one of them. Fortunately for me, a newer targeted therapy saved my life.  This was only possible thanks to research.  There's always a niggling fear that it can come back - balanced by the hope that the research will be one step ahead.

My cancer journey started me on my swimming journey, which keeps me happy, healthy, and (mostly) sane. This year I started coaching ocean swimming with CanToo. It brings me so much joy to share my ocean skills and passion with likeminded individuals who are all raising money to support cancer research.

Inspired my original CanToo mentors who helped me swim my first marathon back in 2019 and the courageous individuals who train with us at Bondi Beach, I'm raising funds for CanToo as I prepare to swim an ultramarathon (20km) around Great Keppel Island in July.

Its daunting.  It will take me 7-8 hours - almost twice as long as my longest swim to date. There's very big fish with very big teeth.

And yet. However challenging, it can't be as hard as watching a loved one go through cancer treatment. And however painful, it can't be as painful as my Dad's final months.

I'm aiming to raise $2500, which will fund roughly 1 week of an early career researcher. This is just a drop in the ocean (pun intended) but every small step towards a cure helps.
