BLOOD CANCERS

I'm supporting cancer research and the health of people in Australia

Roughly 1 in 2 of us will receive a cancer diagnosis in our lifetime. This is a statistic that we need to change.

So, I've decided to take on a personal challenge with the support of CanToo, to raise funds along the way that could be life-changing. From supporting the ongoing health promotion work CanToo provides, to funding incredible, innovative early-career cancer researchers.

We desperately need to find more solutions to cancer, from prevention, to treatment, and ultimately a cure. Please support me on my journey with CanToo by donating to my fundraising page today!

Thank you for your support!

My Updates

FRIDAY 29 & SAT 30 NOVEMBER

Monday 1st Dec
Look out world - here we come!  This week - pool was so lovely, very hard drills though, not using your hands, just your fists - so pulling yourself through the water was a very interesting experience :).
SATURDAY AT BONDI - was Wet, Wild & Windy - Very big thunderstorm around 08:30 - so beautiful to swim in the rain, it changes the water and the air and is really lovely.
Scary news though - from this week we are doing CONTINUAL SWIMMING in the pool - aagh, an hour of nonstop laps ...... Should be great - I'll let you know how that goes.

WEEK 3 - POOL & OCEAN - FIRST WORLD PROBLEMS

Monday 1st Dec
FIRST WORLD PROBLEMS
Really didnt have much to say this week - Friday 21 November and Saturday 22 November.
Pool was cold and windy, even a little rainy and NO ONE wants to hear me whinge!  I am doing this for a bigger picture. xx
OCEAN was phenomenal though - 4' swell easily and super churny and tricky to swim out.   Glad week 3 was done :)

3RD POOL SWIM-FRIDAY 21 NOV

Friday 21st Nov
First world problems today!  Very very windy and more than a little chilly :)
Straight into it again -
300m warmup (no stopping)
2 x 100m straight arms, no stroke just kicking
2 x 100m straight arm, kick from 50m mark THEN
1 x 50 slow
1 x 100 FAST
1 x 150 slow
1 x 200 FAST
Slightly sore shoulder today - will see how we go in the Ocean tomorrow. xx

***********THANK YOU***********

Sunday 16th Nov
THANK YOU ALL SO VERY MUCH
Your generosity has completely blown me away.

2nd Ocean Swim - Sat 15 November

Sunday 16th Nov
Another beautiful Bondi Morning and a *big* swim today.  Water still a little frosty - probably on the 17 side of 18, they tried to tell us it was higher but I was cold - that's unusual for me.  After around 10 minutes practising 'porpoising' which if you don't know, is the best way to get under a large wave.
Hold your hands together, arms stretched out, tuck in your chin, slight arch your back and dive to the sand - touch and hold, or pickup some sand with your HANDS, not your head, then come up on the other side of the wave.  Dive early - don't let your feet get hit by the wave.
Then we went waaaay out the back, I would say today we swam 75% of the head to head of Bondi .... 3 x 200metres burst one way, then 3 x 200m burst the other, swimming back in we had to avoid two pods of Surfers - some good, some learning, so always tricky.  Up for a shower then off to run errands, typical Saturday except I swam 1.2kms before 09:30! x
Feeling inspired to share this pic of my fellow Swimmer @Amelia Singh - who inspired me and generously encouraged me to come and join Can-too {even though she keeps telling people I'm a good swimmer :( }

2ND POOL SWIM - FRIDAY 14 NOVEMBER

Friday 14th Nov
A LITTLE CHILLY THIS MORNING!
Windy and not the nicest at PAP - still 8 of us turned up.
First up - 600metre warmup - don't stop ..... puffing like a freight train at the end of that.
Drills - straight arms, pulling with only 1 arm,1 lap super sloooooow, the next two super fast, super slooooow, 2 super fast and on we went.  Definitely breathing heavy by then!  Then we had to swim 4 laps breathing every 8 strokes - that was easy ONLY FOR THE FIRST lap!  75 minutes later, back in the car with the seat heater on and straight to work.
Tomorrow 2nd Ocean Swim .....

SATURDAY 9 NOV - FIRST OCEAN SWIM WITH THE GROUP

Monday 10th Nov
A little confronting seeing so many people in the same cossie, wearing orange swim caps!  What an amazing bunch of people though.  This Can-Too mob are super organised, everyone had a buddy, everyone had a number on their hand.  We swam out on a Crystal clear Bondi Morning - Water Temp 16!! Got an icecream headache ..... There are constant checks in play to make sure everyone is safe, feeling comfortable and relaxed.   We swim 300 metres, stop, sight the land, call out our number, swim in, run around a flag and swim back out again.  We do this a few times, then we walk down to find some waves and practise there.   Its fun - freezing - & friendly.

WHY I'M DOING THIS

Friday 7th Nov
So, some of you know that my immediate family and wider circle was hit hard by Cancer this year.   It's an ongoing journey, difficult when you feel so powerless in the face of all the medical jargon, need for isolation, and inability to assist in any concrete manner.  All I've really wanted to do this year to hug my loved family and friend and spend time with them.  Diving in the ocean has helped so much this year and this is one thing I can do to help.   Thanks for reading. xxx

Thank you to everyone who has made a donation towards my goal
