Manly CanToo Race - first timer!
Friday 16th Jan
The main thought that was rolling around my head as I waited for the 800m swimmers to come in on Sunday morning, so I could start my race was 'shark, shark, shark, shark, shark shark. Sharks like cloudy days, sharks are grey like the clouds, sharks can creep up on you in the grey, cloudy water - but can't they creep up on you anyway?'
But then I found myself walking along the beach in the rain, purple cap in hand, making nervous friends with another 21-29-year-old first-timer, and then the race started and there really wasn't much thinking after that, just waves and white wash and trying to look above the waves at the yellow buoeys. The out and around the flag and back in again and then before I knew it I needed to run but running in knee deep water is terrible so I managed to catch a little wave and there I was - at the finish line hurrah!
First race done. Many to come.
I'm training with Can Too for the 2/2.5km Ocean Swim!
Monday 24th NovI am training for an event with Can Too, a health promotion organisation that engages and inspires individuals and the community to achieve personal health, wellbeing and altruistic goals.
Beginners and experienced athletes alike are given professional coaching as part of a team to run or swim in endurance events- including 10km, half-marathon and marathon runs; as well as ocean swims and triathlons.
In return, I am raising valuable funds that go towards innovation in the prevention, care and control of cancer. In 2014, our Can Too community has supported 19 early career researchers through Cure Cancer Australia.
Thank you for supporting me!
‘It’s so much fun and I can’t believe I’m going to achieve this goal that I never thought possible. A great program and team support is making it possible. You Can Too!’
Thank you to everyone who has made a donation towards my goal

Think of the mantra of Bruce, the Aussie larrikin shark in FINDING NEMO: 'I am a nice shark, not a mindless eating machine. If I am to change this image, I must first change myself. Fish are friends, not food.' You'll be fabulous - go Lex! xZoe
