Sydney 21km SMH Half Marathon Training

16km run on Good Friday.. IN THE RAIN

After being a bit slack on our traing over the last few weeks, Siobhan and I have decided to give it everything from now until the big race. And nothing says dedication like getting up at 6am on the long weekend to do a 16km run!

It was a miserable rainy day and needless to say neither of us were remotely excited about the task at hand... The run started at Centennial Park, down to Bronte and along the coastal walk past Clovelly and Coogee before turning around and running the whoole way back!

Normally I would try and make my blogpost funny and entertaining, but there was nothing funny about running 16km in the rain and wind. NOTHING. AT. ALL.

This Saturday we tackle 18km around Eastern Suburbs... and up HEARTBREAK HILL. Help!

They tricked us!!!

Saturday morning –up at 6 am and really NOT happy about it. Sent Vonny a text telling her I hate her for making me do this. She agreed and said she hated herself for it too (Good.. as long as we are on the same page). Anyway, kicked off our run shortly after 7am… We started off strong but by the 4km mark we were getting tired, luckily the CanToo trainers kept us motivated to keep on running! Also the threat of being overtaken by another runner who was hot on our tail spurred us along for the last km.

After we finished the run we found out that the run wasn’t 5km after all.. but it in fact it was 6km!!! The bastards tricked us!!!! We ran 6km un just under 40minutes and felt great afterwards.

To celebrate our achievements we had brekkie and Boody Mary’s in Bondi – just what the doctor ordered!! See pics in blog.

Thanks all for your support xxx

4km down - 17km to go!!

Its been a while sine I have been up at 6am on a Saturday morning but it looks like it will be happening a lot over the next 3 months! Training last week kicked off at Centennial Park at 7am.. we started by doing a few drills then a 4km run around the park. Vonny and I ran together and made it the whole way around without stopping (we even overtook some other girls along the way, which i was quite chuffed with!!).

Once the agony was over, we headed to Bondi for an early brekkie followed by a mani pedi...(see photos of us post pedi on Bondi Road with the fluro thongs and Cantoo shirts with our name on.. how embarrasing!!)

Last night, we did a 3km time trial then tomorrow we increase the long run to 5km (I think we'll need a bloody mary after that one!)

Stay tuned for more updates and pics!!

I'm training with Can Too for the Sydney Morning Herald Half Marathon!

I am training for an event with Can Too, a health promotion organisation that engages and inspires individuals and the community to achieve personal health, wellbeing and altruistic goals.

Beginners and experienced athletes alike are given professional coaching as part of a team to run or swim in endurance events- including 10km, half-marathon and marathon runs; as well as ocean swims and triathlons.

In return, I am raising valuable funds that go towards innovation in the prevention, care and control of cancer. In 2014, our Can Too community has supported 19 early career researchers through Cure Cancer Australia.

Thank you for supporting me!

‘It’s so much fun and I can’t believe I’m going to achieve this goal that I never thought possible. A great program and team support is making it possible. You Can Too!’
