I'm training with Can Too for the 1km Ocean Swim!
I am training for an event with Can Too, a health promotion organisation that engages and inspires individuals and the community to achieve personal health, wellbeing and altruistic goals.
Beginners and experienced athletes alike are given professional coaching as part of a team to run or swim in endurance events- including 10km, half-marathon and marathon runs; as well as ocean swims and triathlons.
In return, I am raising valuable funds that go towards innovation in the prevention, care and control of cancer. In 2014, our Can Too community has supported 19 early career researchers through Cure Cancer Australia.
Thank you for supporting me!
‘It’s so much fun and I can’t believe I’m going to achieve this goal that I never thought possible. A great program and team support is making it possible. You Can Too!’
My Updates
My first proper open water swim, Bondi north to south, boat ramp to Icebergs - week 6
Monday 21st DecFinally the conditions at Bondi on Saturday were calm enough for us to really test our mettle in the open water. Wow, so scary. We swam from one end of Bondi beach to the other, a MILLION miles from shore (!!), and about 2/3 of the way back again. Only a total distance of between 1.2 & 1.5km, which is much less than we've been doing in the pool. But I felt very alone out there in the middle of the ocean. Just the sharks and me. (Not really, but it sure felt that way!). By the way back I was able to get into a rhythm and start to enjoy myself....but keep the love coming people, this is one of the scariest things I've ever done in my life! And I am so sore today - sore all over. Lucky it's for such a good cause. Thanks to Hooi and Nicole and some of the other swimmers for being so encouraging - couldn't have done it without you.
4 weeks in and 1km time trial completed!
