Sydney 2km or 2.5km Ocean Swim Training

last ocean swim for 2014 wasnt for the fainthearted

A few people have asked me how my ocean swim was yesterday & all I can say is it went well in regards to I did it but not well in regards to wimping out & having a little cry. Waves were so big it was like swimming up a hill, we had to dive through the waves as we couldn't go over them.  We had currents moving us left & right along the beach. it was a true test of our fittness (or lack of). Then the last time swimming back to shore about 4 of us got caught in a huge double wave, tumbling over each other, I lost my 3rd pair googles. And I just stopped & thought I cannot do this I had no energy, had taken in so much water so was going to call the lifeguard for a bit of support. Only to see the lifeguard swim past me back to shore (the bastard!!). So I was like 'well you have no choice but to swim back in now'. Made it in with a face full of tears. I wasn't hurt just shocked & exhausted.

We were the only ones in the water at bondi beach yesterday, noto even any surfers & were told that we'd never race in those conditions.
So I'm proud of myself & the 10 others in my group & grateful for our 2 coaches for pushing us (the 20 swimmers in the 1km group just stayed in the shallows) & also appreciative of the lifeguards who stood in a barrier line to ensure we didn't go into the North bondi rip.

That's my last ocean swim for the year, so in the next few weeks I need to build up my distance and training. So I feel strong when we commence back in January.

Hopefully that's the worst over with now.

P.s thank you to Neal my lovely boyfriend who got the phone call after the swim with me blubbering about losing my googles & being scared. Who basically reassured me and said ' you did it, be proud'. And that I am :-)

Thanks big sis

Thanks to my sister for being the first to donate to my page. For that you'll be getting a surprise gift..... a beetroot from my garden plot.

Yes I know you're excited. Think of all the magical things you can make :-)

I'm training with Can Too for the 2/2.5km Ocean Swim!

I am training for an event with Can Too, a non-profit program that matches fitness incentives with a good cause.

Beginners and experienced athletes alike are given professional coaching as part of a team to run, swim or cycle in endurance events- including 9km, half-marathon and marathon runs, triathlons, as well as ocean swims.

In return, I will raise valuable funds that go directly towards funding cancer researchers through Cure Cancer Australia.

‘It’s so much fun and I can’t believe I’m going to achieve this goal that I never thought possible. A great program and team support is making it possible. You Can Too!’

Thank you to my Sponsors
