Summer Ocean Swim 1km 2024

Jellyfish central

Training yesterday was a simulated goal event swim. We swam a loop of just over 1 km in the Cabbage Tree bay. The water temp was great, 22.8 degrees and visibility was pretty good. Slightly bumpy in the more exposed part of the bay but I was still able to breathe bilaterally and had a great swim. The most challenging part of the swim was dodging the jelly fish which just kept increasing in numbers!!! Contorting myself and altering my strokes as I kept coming across yet another Jellyfish was a challenge. Luckily I only had a few minor brushes, so only little stings on my arm and neck. Others were not so fortunate! The 2km group who swam after us, were swimming through masses of jellyfish.
Ocean swimming always has it's challenges, whether it's the waves, which I still find daunting, or the ever changing sea life. However I am grateful for the opportunity to be able to swim and am thankful that I am healthy and fit enough to get out in the water.
To date I have raised over $11 000 for cancer research and I can't think of a more worthy charity to support. CanToo supports emerging cancer researchers who are able to continue their important work to help find more treatments and protocols to reduce cancer.
Thank you to all who have supported me over the years...if you have a few dollars to spare please consider a tax deductible donation towards my fundraising.

I'm supporting cancer research and prevention with Can Too Foundation.

1 in 3 women and 1 in 2 men will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. This means that potentially someone we love may have to battle cancer, and that's a statistic that needs to change.

So I asked myself, "what can I do to help?" That's where the Can Too Foundation came in! Can Too provides professionally coached training programs for participants of any fitness level to run, swim and cycle their way to a healthier lifestyle and a cancer-free world.

In return, I am raising valuable funds that go towards innovation in the prevention, care, and control of cancer. Since 2005, Can Too Foundation has trained over 18,000 participants and raised over $25,000,000 to invest in over 200 one-year cancer research grants.

It would be fantastic if you could sponsor me!

Thank you for your support!
