I'm a total beginner - is this program for me?
add remove

Yes! This program gives you the option to choose between a 5km goal or a 10km goal. If you're a complete beginner to running, or haven't run in a while, we recommend training for the 5km distance.

If you already have some running experience, we recommend you train for the 10km distance.

Our Coaches will be there to guide you along this journey to help you confidently achieve whichever goal you choose by the end of the program.

Do I train for 5km or 10km?
add remove

This program gives you the option to train for either a 5km distance or a 10km distance. The choice is up to you, but we encourage any beginner runners to opt for the 5km option.

Your pod will combine participants of both goal distances, but your Coach will support you for your desired goal. Plus, you'll receive a training program based on your goal distance.

Just select whether you want to aim for 5km or 10km during the registration form!

What can I expect during my training sessions?
add remove

Your first session of the week will typically cover:

- How to run more efficiently
- Improving core strength
- Proper breathing techniques
- Understanding injury prevention
- Talks from guest speakers

Your second session of the week will typically cover:

- Focusing on running form
- Building endurance
- Improving mental focus
- Working on pacing and race strategy

Do I need to fundraise?
add remove

Yes! When you sign up to our Autumn 5km & 10km program, you are making a commitment to raise $500 throughout your journey with us. These funds are so vital to ensure we can continue our work, from our fitness programs to funding crucial cancer research that is changing and saving lives.

How much does it cost to take part?
add remove

To take part in our Autumn 5km & 10km program, you will need to pay a program fee of $320 upfront at registration. This covers the cost of all your training, and we think it's quite the deal!

What events can I take part in at the end of the program to complete my goal?
add remove

Here are a few events taking place in late-March to mid-April that this program will help train you for:

29 March: Parramatta Race Series (5km & 10km distances)
18 April: Run Wollongong (5km & 10km distances)
19 April: Manly Rotary Fun Run & Walk (5km & 10km distances)

Please note that race entry is not included in your CanToo program. Due to the growing popular demand of running events, we encourage you to register for your desired event sooner rather than later!

What if I don't hit my fundraising target?
add remove

If you're concerned about hitting your fundraising target, don't worry! We will be here every step of the way with tips and tricks to help you reach your goal. Plus, your fellow CanToo-ers that you'll be training with will also be able to share inspiration for fundraising.

We suggest getting yourself started with a self-donation - it'll get you on your way and make your target feel all the more achieveable!

Why should I join a CanToo program, rather than a run club?
add remove

While run clubs can be a fun social activity, our CanToo programs are led by qualified and experienced Coaches with a full training plan provided, to help you reach your goals.

Our program can also offer you:
- Warm up routines (joint prep, muscle activation)
- Cool-down and stretching tips
- Basic mobility exercises for hips, knees and ankles
- Guidance on when to push yourself, and when to rest
- A safe space to run in a friendly environment, from running in a group, to ensuring you're not injuring yourself - your safety is important to us.
- The chance to make a difference for an amazing cause!
