If Heather isn't trekking to Everest Base Camp, exploring the breathtaking valleys of Nepal, completing the World Marathon Challenge, or publishing books, you'll likely find her fundraising and raising awareness for cancer research. Every challenge she takes on is driven by something far greater than the finish line.
As a CanToo ambassador, mother of two and international adventurer, Heather's story is a powerful reminder that life's biggest challenges can become the starting point for extraordinary journeys.
The catalyst
In 2007, at just 41 years old, Heather's life changed forever when she was diagnosed with Stage 1 ovarian cancer. Receiving this diagnosis marked the beginning of a long period of careful monitoring. After undergoing life-saving surgery to remove the ovarian cancer, Heather lived one appointment at a time, grateful that every result showed no signs of the disease returning. When doctors finally confirmed she was cancer free, it marked the beginning of a new chapter.
A chapter devoted to fun, fitness and fundraising.
A new chapter
Determined to improve her overall fitness and embrace every opportunity life could offer, she took her first step in 2012 by signing up for a 4km fun run at the age of 47.
She has tackled some of the world's most iconic adventures, from the 2015 North Pole Marathon to the World Marathon Challenge - running seven marathons, on seven continents, in seven days. She’s co-led treks with Huma Charity Challenge to climb Mount Kilimanjaro and adventure through the Himalayas, all while raising tens of thousands of dollars for CanToo alongside her team.
Kakadu National Park with CanToo
This July, Heather embarks on her next adventure, guiding an extraordinary 8-day trek through Kakadu National Park with CanToo. Together, the group will venture beyond the tourist trails into Kakadu’s spectacular and remote landscapes. From lush monsoon vine forests and ancient Indigenous rock art, to secluded gorges and remarkable wildlife, every day offers a new adventure.
Just as importantly, every step of the journey supports CanToo’s dual mission as participants raise vital funds for innovative cancer research. Guided by Heather, whose own cancer journey inspired a life dedicated to adventure, resilience, and giving back - the experience is about far more than reaching the destination. It’s about making a meaningful difference.
Investing in research
Every kilometre Heather runs and every mountain she climbs is a celebration of resilience, generosity, and the importance of investing in life-saving cancer research.
