Inspired by my sister Ellen, one stroke at a time.
This challenge is deeply personal to me. I'm taking it on in honour of my beautiful sister Ellen, who received a cancer diagnosis far too young at just 36.
At the time, she had three little kiddies under 4.
The 503 days following her diagnosis were challenging for our entire family and I'm incredibly proud of the courage, grace and determination she showed every single day. I will always be grateful for the love, support and community that surrounded her and us during that time.
No matter what she was facing, Ellie always looked for the light at the end of the tunnel. She remained positive, embraced each challenge with remarkable strength and focused on what mattered most to her.
Despite everything, she continued to inspire with one of the most important messages being the need to talk openly about things and never shy away from a diagnosis.
Her strength, honesty and resilience have touched so many lives and continue to inspire me every day.
There were plenty of moments and plenty of tears, where I found myself asking "Why her and not me?"
Why did she have to face this battle with so much on the line while raising three young children and building the life she loved and deserved? It's a question I'll never have an answer to but it's one of the reasons I'm committed to this challenge.
I'm training with CanToo and working towards my goal of completing the Cole Classic 5km swim in February 2027.
