Balmoral 2km Swim 2020

Will you help me support cancer research & prevention with Can Too Foundation?

You might have already heard that I have (probably foolishly) signed up to my first ever ocean swim in April - both as a personal challenge but also to raise much-needed funding for cancer research.

My swimming journey to date...

After somehow missing the boat when I was young, I learnt to swim (not just freestyle but basic survival) 3 years ago. So while I have picked up some pool skills since then, this is my first foray into the deep blue sea and its HARD! I train with a lovely group of ladies in the program who are also ocean swim beginners but - as I was disappointed to learn on Day 1 - are pros in the pool! As such I have comfortably secured the position of being 'last' every single time. Science also says my lack of height and mass do not help either, certainly not when you are being buffeted by 6-foot waves. In fact, I have already been rescued by a life saver - yes, Bondi-Rescue style, thankfully without the cameras because it was in the much calmer waters of Clovelly...!

A little bit about CanToo...

1 in 3 women and 1 in 2 men will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. This means that potentially someone we love may have to battle cancer, and I'm sure you agree that that’s a statistic that needs to change. The Can Too Foundation aims to do this by funding innovation in the prevention, care, and control of cancer. Since 2005, they have trained over 15,000 people like me and raised over $21,000,000 to invest in 168 one-year cancer research grants.

How you can help

If you or someone close to you has been affected by cancer, you know what a challenging battle this disease can be. Will you help me fund the research that could change lives?

We fund the cost of the (exceptionally well-run and supportive) training program ourselves and so all of your donations are directed to where they belong. And if you are not able to help financially today, I would appreciate a prayer for my safe completion! ;)

Thank you so much!

Thank you to my Sponsors

Good luck on your first ocean swim - you got this! As Dory would say, just keep swimming.
