SMH Half Marathon 2016 - Sydney

Been a while

Haven't posted a blog for a week or so. You can thank final year of uni for that. Studying full time, working part time and training for a half marathon, life gets ahead of you pretty quickly.

Training is still kicking on. The distances are getting longer, the track sessions are getting harder. My legs are getting sorer. My blisters are getting bigger. I ran 16kms on monday, it is a long bloody way! Like 6 postcodes and back kinda long! Bulli, Thirroul, Austimer, Coledale, Wombarra, Scarbrough.. and then back to Bulli again. Good times.. 18kms this week. Yew. (sense my sarcasm?) Just kidding im actually enjoying this running thing.. Especially with the view we get running, the south coast is so beautiful!!

Wrecked

What a week! Had two big assessments due at uni - on the same day.. Hence no sleep most of the week and a very emotional stressed out Karina. Crazy busy weekend at work - as well as a solid week of training!

Wednesday i spent half the afternoon having a tantrum over uni ( i know boohoo) and then had track night with can too. On the track this week we had 5 x 800m efforts with a 200m active recovery. Track night is a good time to push myself - i love being in the hurtlocker. My coach set me a goal of making every 800m effort under 5 minutes - i managed all 5 efforts at 4 minutes. I thought my lungs were going to light on fire from the burn and my heart come up through my throat. I dont think all the easter chocolate helped to much in terms of fitness... haha

Saturdays long run session however wasn't as much fun as the track night. I ran with my cantoo pod for 14kms up so many hills. So many.. Followed by 8 hours on my feet all day at work.. Safe to say i slept like a baby that night - and the extra hour from daylight savings was needed!!

I love being able to do this - with the group im doing it with - for the people i know who are affected by this horrible disease. Help support me support those who need it!

Good Friday for a 14km run.

So, this morning i dragged Joshua out of bed to ride my beach cruiser bike to keep me company on my run this morning! Absolute beaut of a morning for a run!

Was feeling really good! Had my peanut butter on toast for breaky to fuel me for my run! Was a good idea until about the 6km mark and i could begin to taste it again.. haha
Tackled a few hills, started feeling a bit flat around 7kms but i was sweet once i started heading back home! Josh kept me in my happy place with good tunes on my run :)

I did have a blister beginning to brew under my toe due to my socks rubbing - it hurts.. (time for some toe socks)

But i did finish the 14kms strong!! With my last two kms averaging 5:15min/km. Stoked!!

Time to sit down, have a drink and do what i do best on Easter.. eat all the chocolate i see :)

Happy Easter!

Track Night - 5km time trial

Hello!

Last night we had our first night at beaton park! Man it was heaven running on a track, so soft and spongy!

We did our 5km time trial! I set out a goal to make it under 30 minutes - my time was 26 minutes! I was stoked!

Tomorrow (good friday) I am setting out to aim to run 14kms in under 90 minutes. I will have my side kick aka my husband riding his push bike next to me to keep me company - 14kms is a long way!

Enjoy your easter! And don't forget to sponsor me!!

12km mark

Hello all!

So we are up to the 12km mark in training. I should have been with my can too team at the splash and dash festival in Wollongong today, but i had to work.
I had all intentions to get up and do my run first thing in the morning before work! My alarm went off at 5:45am, buuuuuuut it was cold and windy and still very dark so i had a sleep in. Oops

HOWEVER! I got home from work at 6pm, put on my gear and on my way i went.

It was miserable weather but there was no way i was talking myself out of this run.

I want to say a huge thank you to all those encouraging honks i recieved whilst slogging it out on the pavement this evening (even if some of you were taking the piss). Each and every honk helps me pick up my feet and keep on moving. So whoever is reading this blog, if you see anyone in a white and orange can too singlet, (or bright orange can too singlet) give them some words of encouragment, every bit helps :)

Anyway! Made 12kms in 1hr and 13mins with quite a few hills, rain and running into the wind most of the way home.

Now it is time for me to rest with my husband!

Cold and Windy

So I recently got married - like two weeks ago. But I haven't stopped training for this half marathon. Yesterday we had track day. It was cold. Wet. And windy and the surf was absolutely pumping!!! (could have been out surfing instead of running). But i have priorities. This half marathon isnt going to run itself! I was feeling pretty flat when i was running yesterday aswell. It helps to be surrounded by such supporting fellow can too runners that help push you each and every session. We did 4 1km hard sessions, which was pretty tough! But it helps to remind myself this isnt tough compared to what the cancer sufferers and there family and friends are going through. I have it pretty easy. And i am thankful i am able to get out and do my bit to help cancer research! Please help me reach my goal. It will help me get over that finish line in May, and will also help out with cancer research!! Every dollar counts!

Peace out! I'll have an update on how the long run goes on Saturday! 12kms this week!
