I'm supporting cancer research and the health of people in Australia 

Roughly 1 in 2 of us will receive a cancer diagnosis in our lifetime. This is a statistic that we need to change. 

So, I've decided to take on a personal challenge with the support of CanToo, to raise funds along the way that could be life-changing. From supporting the ongoing health promotion work CanToo provides, to funding incredible, innovative early-career cancer researchers.

First ocean swim (sort of!)

Saturday 8th Nov
Today was to be our first ocean swim at Manly but… the beach was closed.
Rough seas and a very high tide saw the surf hitting the wall at Manly beach!  The beach really has taken a hammering this year.  Have to wonder if we’re seeing the results of climate change and rising sea levels already.
We walked over to the beautiful harbourside instead.  So good to have an alternative but, boy, was it cold.  18.5 degrees!  This is very cold for me but I braved it and warmed up pretty quickly.
My two challenges are 1. getting in to cold water and 2. getting over fear of multiple breaking waves coming at me.  Fear No.2 will have to wait for another day!  Thank you all for the support so far.  I truly appreciate it and will try to do you proud.  Looking forward to Wednesday training at the pool.

First Training Session

Wednesday 5th Nov
Had our first pool training session today at a wonderful new facility at Brookvale, Aqua Culture Swim Centre.  Great new pool, amazing coaches and a recovery facility!  They have ice baths, sauna, the lot.  I strongly recommend it.
Our coach Sandi is amazing and I've already learnt some new skills.  Looking forward to our first ocean swim at Manly this Saturday.  Wish me luck!
