So much for updating this regularly!

Whilst I haven't been updating this page I have been running. A lot. The last really long run was 33km three weeks ago which took me almost 4.5 hours. Last weekend was a much more civilsed 30 minutes as I wind down and get ready for the Marathon on Sunday.

I should get there. There was a point where I thought I might have been on track to beat my previous time, if only by a minute or two, but the tendons behind my knee objected to the last long run and haven't entirely recovered since. I have tape and nurofen which should sort me out!

100 Days to go

I've been warming up to this for the last 18 months since I decided to do my third (and this time definitely) final marathon, but it's finally getting closer. 100 days to go until NYC. I've been training in earnest since the beginning of the year, I've secured my race entry, and as the weekend runs get longer and longer I'm now kicking off my fundraising.

Thanks to everyone's generous support of my running and swimming efforts over the years I've raised over $30,000 for the Can Too Foundation. Can Too makes grants to early career cancer researchers, acting as seed funding that allows the researchers to develop their ideas and prove their concepts. It's heartening to know that the researchers funded as a result of your support of my early Can Too programs have already gone on to achieve great things resulting in much better outcomes for people diagnosed with cancer.

I'm looking to raise $10,000 this time around. I'm sure it won't be my last event with Can Too but it'll certainly be my final marathon.

It will have taken the best part of two years to train to be able to plod around the 42.2km / 26.2 miles of New York City. Were you to sponsor me by the hour it would be an expensive exercise... the last time I did this I finished in a reasonably sedate 6 hours, 28 minutes, and 13 seconds. I'm hoping to beat that this time if only by a few seconds, but actually all I'm really hoping for is to finish the race, pick up the medal (it's all about the medals!), and raise a significant amount of funds for Can Too.
