Two weeks consecutive 18km runs!
I'm feeling quite good about doing a decent race on 15 May. OK - "race" might be overstating it in my case. But I am now feeling as good as I have done (when running) in the last two years.
I've managed to ( mostly) ignore the memories of having gone a bit faster a few years ago. Those particular experiences are in the past and were run under different circumstances, not to mention a body that was a bit different back then too!
I've had to almost start from scratch in teaching my body how to accept running again. I can no longer rely on anger and frustration to drive me on - I have to find different ways of getting there. And so - I have found running with a group of people to be a good way of pushing on and reaching goals. In the past I have shied away from groups as I was mostly too locked in my inner grump to have much need of others, or so I thought.
We are now nearing the end of the training programme........hopefully we can all stay fit, and free of viruses, and make it over that finishing line (mat?) in just under 3 weeks time. ????
What happens next? We'll see.
Not quite running 10km
Well, it was ridiculously hot on Saturday. I had my fuel belt on, which was just as well!
My watch read about 8.6km at the end, and I hadn't (quite) retched on this occasion.
On now to Wednesday and further drills. No doubt the rain will then clatter down and have me yearning for the sun......oh well.
Saturday run..
Having missed last week's run due to a bout of gastro I wanted to get back into things today with a good 8km run. The morning started well - I remembered my watch. All was pretty good till about the 5 and a half km mark. Then I got another visit from my old friend, Madame Retch. To be fair - the noise is by far the worst thing, and it probably carried over several suburbs. I was too far bent double to be unduly embarrassed.
Sp, what do I do? Well, I have a water belt, and I should use it! The various drugs I'm taking mean I need to keep up my liquids.....so running in the heat is a pretty sure fire way to get dehydrated. Smart work!?
I think I should also up my core strength work. We'll see how that goes.
I'm now off to get my hair done, cos my golden locks need a trim! May lose a couple of kilo as well..
Pushing on.......
Just yesterday we did a 3k "benchmark" run. The goal was to run the 2nd and 3rd ks faster than the first one. I managed this, but not without a little bit of wholesome retching towards the end. No bones broken, pride a little bit tweaked maybe, but there you go!
Getting up at around 5am every Wednesday is a new challenge for me, as is finding the correct parking space in the mean streets of Rozelle. I'm sure I'll have it sorted by week 14. Perhaps.
On to Saturday and we're up to 6k. I'm hoping to leave the loud sounds behind me and just get on with completing a nice little run. Well, I can hope, can't I?
I'm training with Can Too for the Sydney Morning Herald Half Marathon!
I am training for an event with Can Too, a health promotion organisation that engages and inspires individuals and the community to achieve personal health, wellbeing and altruistic goals.
Beginners and experienced athletes alike are given professional coaching as part of a team to run or swim in endurance events- including 10km, half-marathon and marathon runs; as well as ocean swims and triathlons.
In return, I am raising valuable funds that go towards innovation in the prevention, care and control of cancer. In 2015, our Can Too community has supported 14 early career researchers through Cure Cancer Australia.
Thank you for supporting me!
‘It’s so much fun and I can’t believe I’m going to achieve this goal that I never thought possible. A great program and team support is making it possible. You Can Too!’
