Spectacular morning at Palm Beach
Saturday 17th Dec
Today was the annual CanToo Holiday Swim – Manly, Mona Vale and Bondi were all represented today with over 100 swimmers in the water.
Despite the rain of the prior few days, today was amazing sunshine and wonderful blue skies
Arriving around 8am, I got to walk with Joel (occasional CanToo Photographer run and swim – see his amazing photo below) and Michael friend of Joel and Robyn and husband of Jacquie both half marathoners
So by 9am, we were lucky enough get a briefing from Annie Crawford – CanToo founder outlining the journey of ten years, $17million and real progress and cancer cures through research
Coaching briefing and then the longest ocean swim of the season so far – I need to sort my left arm out – my stroke is over rotating at 45 degrees rather than pulling straight through. A bit technical I know but 2 years ago I damaged my rotator cuff in my shoulder, of all places running at Narrabeen and my swim stroke hasn’t been the same since. What does it mean in plain English, instead of swimming in a straightish line I veer to the left because my right arm is stronger and I put too much pressure on the point of my left shoulder to correct it
First world problems – I know – I am grateful I can swim, I am grateful I can swim in the ocean and I am grateful for my health
It’s great to see the start of the donations coming through to get the ball rolling for 2017 –
I am 1.2% into my fundraising goal
I need to get a plan for a big raffle for the year so if you know anyone with unique prizes let me know – as I need about 10 prizes that will get people curing cancer
Raining all night for squad training
Friday 16th DecWell the water was warm compared to the outside temperture so that was a bonus
We swam 1.8km last night and its the last place I wanted to be - yet I always feel better getting out of the water
Well maybe except for tonight when as I stepped onto the stairs to get out and I felt like a sniper shot my right calf
It was a cramp in my right calf and just had to wait 7 minutes for it to settle down so I could move out of the pool
Frustrating because there are lots of theories about why cramps happen but no solutions
If you have any great cramp remedies let me know

Thursday 1st DecI didn't feel like swimming tonight
I didn't feel like swimming after the first lap or the second lap
I connected with Ewan for inspiration and just got on with it after that
Sometimes turning up to training feels great and sometimes it doesn't
It was just a reminder to do the work for me
I have never been this out of condition or tired so early into a program ever
