Melbourne Marathon 10km Training 2016

Just over a week to go...

There is now just over a week to go until race day! My race pack has arrived this week and that means things are really happening.

Last weekend I was away meeting my newest nephew, however that didn't stop training with the longest run to date... 9kms. Thanks so much to Kylie who offered to go with me - even though it was raining we did make the full distance!! (of course that meant we could then go out for breaky afterwards!)

Backing up our mid week training with some 1km drills and tomorrow we are heading out for a "short" run (5km) as we taper off ahead of race day. Never thought I would ever say "oh, it's just a short 5km this week". How things have changed since starting this program! I honestly didn't think I would make it this far...now it's just the mental game to get me over the line on race day!

A huge thankyou to all my sponsors so far! Your support means so much to me.

8kms...a new personal best!

Today we increased our training again and ran 8kms from the Fairfield athletic track following the path along the Yarra River down to the Collingwood Children's Farm and back again. I was hesitant of making the distance today and the hills on the home stretch were a killer (way more fun going down those hills than up them!), but as a group we all made it!
Next week 9kms.

Half way point...

So I have managed to make it to the half way mark of the training program for the 10kms, with now just over 4 weeks until race day! My training continues, even when I go away on weekends. I am lucky enough to have a training buddy wherever I go and last weekend was no exception (thankyou again Susan!). I was in Sydney and managed a Personal Best (PB for those non-running people following this) running the longest distance I've ever done - 7kms around Centennial Park. I was hesitant about getting to this stage of the training thinking I wouldn't make it, but I have, and I'm very happy I've made it so far.

Tonight our training pod was out continuing our training ...yes, even in the rain!! At times I question why I am doing this (especially when it is cold and rainy), but this is not just a personal goal, it's also about getting out there and making friends and supporting such a great cause.

Bring on Saturday and the next long run.

Thanks so much to you all for your support!

First Training Session!

Hello Friends and Family!
As part of my 2016 resolutions I planned to sign up for a 10km run. Well, I signed up for the Melbourne Marathon 10km in October...and now that run is now less than 10 weeks away! (It's come around so fast!!)
Today I started training with a group called Can Too to help get me to this goal. If you would like to sponsor me, all the money raised goes towards Can Too major beneficiaries - Cure Cancer Australia and Cancer Council NSW. My goal is to raise at least $800. So please get on board and support me!

I'm training with Can Too for the Melbourne Marathon 10km run!

I am training for an event with Can Too, a health promotion organisation that engages and inspires individuals and the community to achieve personal health, wellbeing and altruistic goals.

Beginners and experienced athletes alike are given professional coaching as part of a team to run or swim in endurance events- including 10km, half-marathon and marathon runs; as well as ocean swims and triathlons.

In return, I am raising valuable funds that go towards innovation in the prevention, care and control of cancer. In 2015, Can Too is funding 14 early career researchers through Cure Cancer Australia.

Thank you for supporting me!

‘It’s so much fun and I can’t believe I’m going to achieve this goal that I never thought possible. A great program and team support is making it possible. You Can Too!’

Thank you to my Sponsors
