Training Information

Run for the fun of your life! This 10 week program provides all the professional coaching and support you need to achieve a goal you never thought possible, and fundraise for cancer research! Mid week sessions on the track will include a variety of three types of sessions; hills, track and stairs incorporating the below:

  • General fitness
  • Breathing technique
  • Core strength
  • Injury prevention

On Saturdays we do a ‘long run’, and the distances increase as the program progresses. Coaches at this distance session will focus on:

  • Running on trail tracks
  • Distance “in your legs”
  • Mental focus
  • Running form
  • Building up endurance to conquer the mountain

Occasionally a Guest Speaker will engage the group with professional advice on nutrition, injury prevention or goal setting. You will get to hear first hand from those who have experienced cancer and be encouraged to fundraise by researchers at the forefront of cancer research in Australia. Follow our specific day by day training guide which outlines what you should be doing every day to help you be your very best on race day – suggestions include yoga, spin classes and cross training.

About the Run

This is a true trail running experience with some challenging climbs, spectacular scenery and some downhills – a great bush escape to celebrate your journey fundraising for cancer research.

Head to the offical event website for details on race day.

It’s your responsibility to enter your chosen race, at your own expense. Registration into the Can Too training program helps cover some of the cost of merchandise, pool fees, water safety and coaching. It doesn’t include entry into, travel to, or any other costs associated with participating in your chosen goal event race day.

What level of running experience do I need?

Anyone can join! The Can Too training program is professionally based and structured to ensure that people of all levels of fitness and experience – from novices to seasoned athletes – are well prepared to achieve their personal goal in their chosen endurance event. The coaches are motivational and the journey is addictive as members develop new friends, share experiences and have fun. The team environment is a vital component in helping you to feel motivated, inspired and supported.

What kind of gear do I need?

At the first training session you receive an official Can Too training singlet/top. You will need running shorts/pants/tights, a hat, good socks and a sturdy pair of running shoes. In the first few weeks of training you receive special discounts with running gear suppliers who support Can Too and we encourage you to purchase any gear you might need from them!

Questions? We'd love to talk to you.

How much does it cost to join this program?

A $120 registration fee is required at the time of registration, which helps cover some of the costs related to coaching, track entry fees, and other costs.

How much do I have to fundraise?

In return for the 10 weeks of coaching and support from Can Too while you become a trailblazer, you’re committing to raising at least $1,000 for the research, prevention, care, and control of cancer.

Your local training group has its own team captain. This dedicated person is there to support your fundraising and provide advice from their own experiences fundraising with Can Too.

You’ll receive a weekly newsletter with tips on how to fundraise, and how to work with your network of new-found friends at Can Too.

Where does the money go?

Money raised with the Can Too Foundation goes toward the research, prevention, care and control of cancer. Thanks to the generosity of our principal supporter, Macquarie Group Foundation, and the support of our corporate partners and Centurions, we’ve supported Annual Report.

If you have any questions at all, please contact us.

What if I don’t make my fundraising commitment?

Since 2005 we’ve trained 13,500+ participants just like who have in turn fundraised over $18 million. Most important thing you can know about fundraising – it can be done!!!

Can Too programs are a dual journey of fitness and fundraising, with each part as important as the other, so there’s an expectation you’ll do your part in giving back to the community by fundraising at least $1,350.

Remember that we’re all in this together. You’ll have a dedicated fundraising support person in your local group, and we’ll send you weekly tips and fundraising how-to’s to help you along the way.

While it’s best to complete fundraising before your goal event, so you can celebrate your dual victory, you’ll still have 31 days after your race day, to keep fundraising for cancer research and prevention.
