About the Run

The Sydney Morning Herald Half Marathon is a fantastic event in the heart of Sydney. The course takes in such sites as The Rocks, the Sydney Harbour Bridge, the Sydney Opera House, and the Royal Botanic Gardens. The race starts next to St Mary's Cathedral, and finishes in Hyde Park.

Head to the offical event website for details on race day.

IMPORTANT: Each Can Too participant enters their goal event at their own expense. This is a popular event so register as soon as possible - first in, best dressed! Details about how to register as part of our team are sent to you during the program.

Important Information

What level of running experience do I need?
Anyone can join! The Can Too training program is professionally based and structured to ensure that people of all levels of fitness and experience – from novices to seasoned athletes – are well prepared to achieve their personal goal in their chosen endurance event. The coaches are motivational and the journey is addictive as members develop new friends, share experiences and have fun. The team environment is a vital component in helping you to feel motivated, inspired and supported.

What kind of gear do I need?
At the first training session you receive an official Can Too training singlet/top. You will need running shorts/pants/tights, a hat, good socks and a sturdy pair of running shoes. In the first few weeks of training you receive special discounts with running gear suppliers who support Can Too and we encourage you to purchase any gear you might need from them!

How do I get to Sydney for the event day?
If you are travelling for the event, you are responsible for organising and covering the cost of their travel and accomodation. Throughout the program you receive recommendations and a chance to travel with those training with you. We have team celebrations together and everyone is invited!

How much does it cost to join this program?
Freedom has kindly covered the fee required to join this program.

How much do I have to fundraise?
The Freedom SMH Half Marathon Fundraising Pledge is $600.    Don’t be nervous about achieving your fundraising goal! You'll be able to access ideas and support as soon as you register, not to mention have a dedicated fundraising mentor throughout the program. As Can Too is primarily a fundraising program, we will need to reach your fundraising pledge 31 days after the goal event. Read more on how to fundraise for cancer research

Where does the money go?
Funds raised go to cancer research thanks to the support of our Principal Supporter The Macquarie Group Foundation, our Centurions and In-Kind supporters. Can Too is a health promotion Foundation supporting Cancer Research through Cure Cancer Australia and Cancer Council NSW.  Read more about how we operate and where your fundraising goes.
