Ness in the sea

Cooly Classic Ocean Swim 2022

The day has come

Finally after a two week postponement due to cyclonic weather and now a change in starting beach we hope to get this swim done in the morning. Have been on holidays but managed a couple of swims in the bull ring (ocean pool) in Forster and as a team we swam our distance in a 25 m (80 laps!) pool on the original race day. Fingers crossed it goes ahead tomorrow!

Mooloolaba mile done!

Great morning at the Mooloolaba Mile. (1.6kms) on Sunday. Really good to get some distance swimming in, pretty chuffed with the time as well, faster than expected. Think the trick  was  pacing alongside another swimmer to keep a consistent speed. Conditions good, nice and flat though a little murky.
Looking forward to the Cooly, only 3 training sessions left!

Maintaining training focus

Well it has been a tough couple of weeks for so many people with the pandemic the floods and international events.   There are 6 local pools currently closed as went under water.
Due to the floods we have not been able to go to the ocean for our swim sessions there, but our amazing Coach Pete has been taking extra time for us on Saturday mornings to keep us swimming, even in the rain. Even after the pump went at our regular training school pool he has arranged an alternative so we could continue to train. So grateful I have been able to continue the program, it has been keeping me a bit distracted in all the world craziness, 4 weeks to go - we are all hopeful the world slows down a little for a day or two so we can achieve this goal!

Pool training update

We had a great session on Tuesday night in the pool. Lots of easy / fast drills. Really getting heart rate up on the fast ones.
Have managed to do 1.4km and 1.5km at my local pool this week so by the time we end on Saturday morning likely to have swum around 5.5-6k across 4 sessions.
Feeling good . Now thinking about doing the 3 k at the Classic - though long way !!

Training at Jack Evans Park

We had an alternative training session for our ocean group today. Ending up at Jack Evans harbour, criss-crossing it and learning some important tips on being calm in the water but also how to 'dolphin' in and out of the surf to conserve energy in the waves.  We worked out we swam about 1.3-1.4kms. Was a bit murky and not really clear what was under the water - so just kept swimming !! Good to get the distance in

I'm supporting cancer research and prevention with Can Too Foundation.

1 in 3 women and 1 in 2 men will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. This means that potentially someone we love may have to battle cancer, and that’s a statistic that needs to change.

So I asked myself, “what can I do to help?” That’s where the Can Too Foundation came in! Can Too provide professionally coached training programs for participants – of any fitness level – to run, swim and cycle their way to a healthier lifestyle and a cancer-free world.

In return, I am raising valuable funds that go towards innovation in the prevention, care, and control of cancer. Since 2005, Can Too Foundation have trained over 17,000 participants, raised over $24,000,000 to invest in 182 one-year cancer research grants.

It would be fantastic if you could sponsor me, or even better join me in a program!

Thank you for your support!
