Sharks, Rips and Waves

Hey everyone

As you may know I have signed up with Can Too again to train to “compete” in an ocean swim in February next year.

I’m hoping to be able to take part in a couple of events, in Bondi and in Manly, and am super excited with how the first week of training has gone – I didn’t even cry! 

I tried for the swim events 3 years ago, and had to pull out due to a shoulder injury. I was terrified every second of the training, even in the safety of the pool – swimming freestyle in a squad was very overwhelming and that was before we even thought about the waves, the rips and the sharks (apparently there was a shark in Coogee there on Saturday).

In preparation this time round, I have become a bit of a water baby for the last 2 months getting comfortable in the water and last night at training we did 1.2km in swims and drills.

The tears may still come in our ocean training, last week was week 1 and Bondi – famous for its awesome surf, was like a lake, fingers crossed for the same this Saturday.

I am training with Can Too and I’m sure you all know how passionate I am about raising funds for the crucial research that young scientists are working on. Without charities like Can Too these researchers would not be able to do their work as they do not receive much government funding. It’s such a privilege to be a part of the Can Too family, and get to meet these amazing scientists and hear about the breakthroughs in curing cancer. It also makes it easy to ask for your help and support. 

I am close to hitting a $10k target, over the past 3 years holding events and raffles and through kind donations from my amazing friends and family – you guys!

I'm training with Can Too for the 1km Ocean Swim!

I am training for a 1km Ocean with Can Too, a non-profit program that matches fitness incentives with a fantastic cause. You all know by now how passionate I am about Can Too and Cure Cancer and you may know how terrified and terrible I am at swimming!

Can Too Runs and Swims for those that are not able to, and there are too many people that can’t, and my determination to do this comes from that. Meeting the incredible Cure Cancer researchers that we fund, and hearing their stories about breakthroughs in curing cancer makes it easy to ask you for support…and easier to think about tackling the waves and sharks (a little bit easier!)

My goal is to raise $1250, and be able to ocean swim when I move to France next year. This is my last Can Too event for a while, so please dig deep and help me to kick cancers butt!
