Central Coast Half Marathon 21km Central Coast 2015

I made it!!!!

Well, it was race day on the weekend & I made it!!! So happy with my run everything went so well. I ran the 10km in 1 hour 10 minutes which was great for me! It's a slow pace relatively for others but for me it was perfect i was not out of breath and there was was no stopping! I loved the whole event and cheering on my team!!! It was a great day. Thanks to everyone who sponored me your funding is going to support a really worthy cause of cancer research. I have loved being part of this whole program. Thanks again for your support....so until next year!!! :o)

Final Week!

Racers ready to race on the weekend! :o) Well I have absolutely loved being part of this program...I may have dropped back to the 10km which is more in line with my abilities atm but I have really enjoyed turning up each week and being part of something great. Tonight we had a cancer researcher from the University of Newcastle Ourimbah Campus come and talk to us about his pancreatic cancer research funded by Cantoo donations which was really inspiring. Thanks to everyone that has sponsored me or wished me well I've its all appreciated. I am pleased to say I've met my fundraising target and would love to do it again in the future and maybe even make the 21km next time...what a great program :o). A big special thanks to our Coach Rob Beardslee and Team Captain Peter Coates who have both done a wonderful job xx

Still running...

Well I am still running!! Today and last Saturday we ran along the course around the water front around the Entrance/Chittaway/Long Jetty. Last Saturday we ran from the Entrance out along the water towards Chittaway and this Saturday we ran from Chittaway towards the Entrance. On Wednesday nights we are meeting at Mingara Track and running various exercises as directed by our lovely coach.

I hope my sponsors won't be too disappointed but I have decided to run the 10km instead of the half marathon as it is more suited to my abilities at this point...but rest assured I am still putting in the time every week and attending all the training sessions...even when it is difficult and involves juggling kids and life. I do whatever I can to make it to training rain, hail or shine!!!

I hope to run the half marathon next year.

Thanks for your support xxxx

Thank you for your donations

This week I have some received some donations that have made me feel so appreciative and supported. It has been a great feeling and has helped to ease the pretty daunting task of fundraising. So I would like to thank everyone from the bottom of my heart as I am very grateful (and I am sure the cancer researchers who the funding is going to also feel the same way). It is a very worthy cause.

At track session last night we sprinted the straights and were mean't to jog the bends but some of them I walked...we did 2.5 laps each time (400 metres per lap...2 laps sprinting and walk/jogging & a half lap recovery x 5). At the time I felt I just couldn't keep jogging the bends after sprinting the straights...my lrgs were burning and i was out of breath. But i should have.... I was a bit worn out but need to push more as I was ok when I got home. On Saturday we are jogging for 1 hour and 40 minutes. I am going to attempt this with a positive attitude and really try to jog as far and fast as I can...wish me luck xx

I ran 11.6km on Saturday!!! Can you believe it??

So on Saturday we were asked to run for 45 minutes in one direction along Tuggerah Lake at Chittaway and then for 45 minutes back. I ran 11.6km alogether and although it was hard I felt sort of comfortable for once. I found a rythm and I kept going :o). This is the furtherest I have ever run...maybe even walked?? I am starting to believe that I may actually make the 21km's!!!! Still a long way to go and very sore now... but I didn't think 11km's was possible at the start. This is a great program that is really helping me change my life, I hope I can change the lives of others too by being able to raise some money for cancer research xx

Week 5 Track Training: 5 x 800m - Picking up the pace in the last 200m

Ok so last night we ran 5 x 800 metres. For the first 600 metres we jogged and then the last 200m we had to pick up the pace. Then we rested for 2 minutes and repeated this 5 times. It was not enjoyable and I don't think its a major exaggeration to say I nearly died (well maybe it is) but none the less it was difficult. It was very windy and I am still feeling unfit and need to gain more mental toughness if I am going to make 21km's I just wanted to complain the whole time...

But now that its over on a positive note this training is helping me improve my lung capacity and helping me to reach my goal and my knees didn't hurt!! Even though its difficult I love that we have a program and a running coach and a supportive and encouraging team and partners. I also love the feeling after I have run. I am feeling so much calmer in general and I am sticking with it even though its hard and I feel like quiting. I know it is helping me change my life and the life of others through the fundraising....the coach assures me in 6-8 weeks it will get a bit easier. We are in Week 5...

10 km today

Today I ran about 10km...it wasn't an easy run I wanted to give up most of the way. It felt good at times and bad at times when i couldn't find a rythm. I am not sure how I will ever get to 21km's as after the 10km today in about 70 mins I was totally done!!! But I'll just keep showing up to practice and keep doing what I am mean't to in between (most of the time) and hope I make it!!! One good thing today was that my knee's weren't too sore...so I think they are getting stronger xx

5 km Time Trial

Well we are in Week Four now and last night we completed the 5 km time trial...I ran the 5km in 33 minutes 55 seconds...which was great for me as I only walked twice in that time for a short while each time. This is not something I could have done at the start of the program. The program is helping not only my fitness but my outlook on life. It's a wonderful way to let off steam. My knee is a bit sore but I am looking after it and resting it with ice after each session. On Saturday we will be running for 70 minutes the longest we will have run so far. I hope my knee holds up and I can keep up with the others...I would like to try and get to 10km...wish me luck!!!

Meeting Annie Crawford

This week at our track session we met the wonderful and inspirational Annie Crawford the founder of Can Too. She started this fundraising program to raise money for cancer as her father died from bowel cancer in his 50's and it combined her love of fitness with doing something positive to raise funds for cancer research. Since then the program has supported many scientists researching all forms of cancer to help find a cure. She talked to us about where the funds go and the exciting breakthroughs made to date. It is a wonderful program and a wonderful cause and I am proud to be a part of it. Plus as I was so busy talking to Annie and my jogging partner Kirrily as I went around the track...I was able to do 5 x 800m's jogging with a 200 m walk in the middle!

Ourimbah Creek

This morning we had a nice run along Ourimbah creek. We saw 2 shetland ponies, 3 dogs and some cows...today was my best run so far...improving a little bit each time...

I am taking part in Can Too!

I am taking part in "Can Too" a program from the "Cure Cancer Australia" foundation (www.cantoo.org.au). The Can Too Foundation is a Health Promotion Foundation that transforms lives through fun, fitness, friends and fundraising.  Beginners and experienced people alike are given professional coaching as part of a team to run or swim and bike in events.
I am training as part of the Central Coast Running Pod were we are provided with a professional running coach and train twice a week for 14 weeks. We train on Wednesday nights and early Saturday mornings. We are training together to take part in the Central Coast 1/2 marathon on Sunday the 29th of November 2015. We have just completed week two of the training program and today I ran the furthest I have so far.
On a personal level I have joined the proram to help improve my physical and mental well-being. I would like to become fitter so that I have more energy to look after my three children Hope, Daniel and Trinity. It's all about a new challenge and something positive to focus on and I have my work cut out for me... I am the slowest in the group of runners and cannot run 5km at this stage let alone 21km...but the lovely running coach assures me if I keep turning up to each session I will get there!!!! I am committed to completing the program.

In return, I am raising valuable funds that go towards innovation in the prevention, care and control of cancer. In 2015, Can Too community is funding 14 early career researchers through Cure Cancer Australia.
