Fearless Flipper

Sydney Olympic (Standard) Triathlon 2017

I am now an Olympic Triathlete!!!

Dear Supportors

I have to say, the love and support I received from family, friends and work colleagues during this journey has been incredible.

A HUGE thank you for all your wonderful donations, together we raised a total of $3040 to make a difference to cancer outcomes in this country, for all of us and our families and friends.

I struggled to swim 200 meters with arms and legs thrashing everywhere. I had never rode a bike with cleats before and never rode more than 15kms. I could not run more than 400 meters without having to stop and catch my breath. And to have to fundraise $2750 seemed impossible. I was absolutely terrified, of what seemed like an impossible target!

Each week I went outside of my comfort zone and turned up to each training session. The CanToo coaches, captains, mentors and team mates were a relentless positive force. As a result, over time I became fitter, stronger and learnt many new skills.

Race Day…

An early start, I was up at 4:40am, Mum & Dad were troopers and were also up to get me out the door on time. Dad drove me down to the race area helping me pump up my bike tyres and set up my race gear in the dark.

With race briefings out of the way, before I knew it, I was standing at the start line. At this stage, my support crew were standing near by and already cheering me on. Just before the race began, the heavens opened up and it poured! I spent then next 35 minutes in the water swimming 1.5kms, one time I nearly swam straight into the safety crew in kayaks. Running up the beach, it was still pouring and my supporters were just as wet as I was.

I made it up to the transition area put on my helmet, drenched socks and shoes and took off on the bike leg for a 40km ride, being extra cautious in the rain. I would spend the next 92 minutes in the saddle riding around a circuit 3 times. Riding around turning point for the next loop, I would hear a massive cheer of support.

By the time I was off the bike, the sun was shining. Now for 10km of pounding the pavement, I was grateful I made it to the final leg with no hiccups and feeling relatively good.

I new I was lucky to be completing in such an event and that my supporters believed in me. At one point, I was struggling and feeling hungry, so convinced myself the sooner I finish the sooner I can eat again. What can I say I love my food!

Still on the sideline, my support crew were giving me high fives and willing me through the final kilometers. As I ran down the final stretch, I got a great energy boost seeing and hearing all my vocal supporters at the finish line.

A MASSIVE thank you to Mum, Dad, Dave, Erica, Dani, Daniel, Kylie, Terry and Robyn for all being at the race and braving the weather conditions to cheer me on, I could hear you from a mile away.

This journey was definitely a challenge but I am the lucky one, I am fit and healthy. Many cancer sufferers don’t have the option to get out amongst the elements to enjoy the natural beauty this world has on offer.

Its all in the name, you CanToo achieve the impossible :)

Nearly race time:)

I am down to the final weeks of training..OMGlaughing

So I just might be able to pull this off and complete this triathlon!

Well, at times it has been tough with 5:30am starts, tackling asthma and falling off the bike(only once, thank goodness), then at times just being plan clumsey and tripping over absolutely nothing while running...a good laugh for those around me:)

To be honest these are all little things in the big scheme. I will always get back up and fight through because I CAN TOO!. There are plenty of people that dont have the opportunities I do to enjoy life and help others all because of cancer. So I am doing this with your help to contribute to finding a cure for cancer.

I encourage you all to treasure your life, follow your dreams and be the best you can be. And along your life journey continue to support those around you.

Because you CAN TOO!!!

Christmas Run Session

7KM covered tonight in the run session, calf muscels are already feeling it!

I'm training for an Olympic Triathlon with Can Too!

I am training for an event with Can Too, a health promotion organisation that engages and inspires individuals and the community to achieve personal health, wellbeing and altruistic goals.

Beginners and experienced athletes alike are given professional coaching as part of a team to run or swim in endurance events- including 10km, half-marathon and marathon runs; as well as ocean swims and triathlons.

In return, I am raising valuable funds that go towards innovation in the prevention, care and control of cancer. In 2015, our Can Too community has supported 12 early career researchers through Cure Cancer Australia.

Thank you for supporting me!

‘It’s so much fun and I can’t believe I’m going to achieve this goal that I never thought possible. A great program and team support is making it possible. You Can Too!’

Thank you to my Sponsors
