Our Journey to the Can Too Foundation

Annie Crawford AM, founder & chair of the Can Too Foundation, lost her father to cancer at the age of 51. Determined to make a difference, Annie was impressed with the work of Cure Cancer Australia, funding breakthrough research by supporting young and brilliant Australian early career cancer researchers. With the support of the Macquarie Group Foundation we forged a formidable partnership and Can Too Run was born in April 2005.

Twelve years on — with 13,500 participants trained to running, ocean swimming and triathlon glory, and over $17 million fundraised — Can Too has grown up.

On 1 October 2014 we became the Can Too Foundation, an independent not-for-profit health promotion foundation, with the vision to ‘transform lives through improving health and wellbeing in the community and supporting the research, prevention, care and control of cancer.’

Can Too Foundation continues to work closely with major beneficiary Cure Cancer Australia to support Australian early-career cancer researchers, while collaborating more broadly in the cancer prevention and research space with other beneficiaries including Cancer Council NSW, Garvan Institute of Medical Research, and the Kolling Institute of Medical Research.

Cancer Research Supported 2005 — 2014

Can Too Foundation believes in funding research across all cancer types, including rare cancers. We support early-career cancer research grants and major cancer research projects for one year at a time, with a commitment to continue providing support in future years for multi-year grants and projects.

A single cancer research grant may work across multiple research areas, for multiple years. The summary indicates individual years of support provided by Can Too for each cancer research type, where a single cancer research grant or major cancer research project may be reflected in multiple categories.
