When is training?

42km Marathon - Locations: East, Inner West, Northern Beaches , North

Training commences on Wednesday, May 7th, 2014 - 20 week training program: Raise $2,000 (+ $100 joining fee)

Saturday Training:

  • North from Kirribilli
  • Northern Beaches from Mona Vale
  • East from Centennial Park
  • Inner West from Centennial Park

A Long Run Schedule will be distributed at the commencement of the program showing your Saturday run locations for the entire program. Some Saturdays you will combine with another group for your long runs – this makes it more fun and you get to meet even more marathoners!!

21km Half Marathon - See locations below  

Training commences on Wednesday 18th June or Thursday 19th June 2013 - 14 week training program: Raise $1,250 (+ $100 joining fee)

Training commences on Wednesday 17th or Thursday 18th July 2014 - 10 week training program: Raise $800 (+ $100 joining fee)

NOTE:  PARTICIPANTS WILL NEED TO REGISTER AND PAY FOR THEIR CHOSEN GOAL EVENT AND ANY PRACTICE EVENTS THAT ARE PART OF YOUR CAN TOO PROGRAM.  MORE INFORMATION ON HOW TO ENTER INTO YOUR GOAL EVENT WILL BE GIVEN TO YOU AFTER THE COMMENCEMENT OF THE TRAINING.

What happens at training?

Each week, the mid-week track session focuses on a different area of preparation such as conditioning, strength or endurance.  Throughout the program we will have guest speakers talking about a relevant subject to either educate or inspire Can Tooers – from nutrition to injury prevention, goal setting or what it is like to experience cancer and the work of Cure Cancer Australia. Track sessions are usually from 6:30pm until 8/8:30pm. There is a NEW mid week 9km program on Tuesdays and Fridays at 12.30pm! See details below.

On Saturday mornings, participants can look forward to distance road runs. The new weekday program have their distance runs on Friday 12.30pm! See details below. These guided weekly runs progressively increase in distance. The training groups are broken into smaller groups so that participants can run with people of similar experience and/or pace. These session are about an hour to start with and get progressively longer as the length of the run increases – this means that for the longer distances, the sessions will start earlier.

Through the remainder of the week, participants follow a training guide which includes cross training and core strength to make sure they have what it takes to reach their goal. Can Tooers can email their coaches during the week, should they have any questions or concerns. Can Too Run and Fit!

We have now have a program to support your Can Too journey called Can Too Run and Fit! Once you register you can choose to increase your fundraising and attend an extra fitness session which will cater for all pods and fitness levels.

What is Can Too Run and Fit? A 1 hour session focusing on endurance, strength and conditioning for all levels
Where is Can Too Run and Fit? At Broughton Street Kirribilli, under the bridge
When is Can Too Run and Fit? 6.30pm Monday nights
How do I join? You can elect to join Can Too Run and Fit during the registration process
What do I need to fundraise in addition to my pledge?

  • 42km Marathon: $2,000 pledge + $500 Run and Fit pledge = $2,500
  • 21km: $1,250 pledge + $400 Run and Fit pledge =$1,650
  • 9km: $800 pledge + $300 Run and Fit pledge =$1,100
  • or $15 per session on a casual basis!
