Dear all,
As you know, I love to exercise. And now I can combine my love of sport with another subject that’s close to my heart, raising funds for cancer research.
I’m running 9km in the Sydney Running Festival on Sunday 21 September and I would like you to help me to raise a minimum of $1,600. This is double my target – aim high!
I’m training with Can Too. This is a non-profit training program, run by professional trainers, with the aim of getting people like me fit enough to participate in endurance races. I’m training 5 days a week for this race – with 6am starts.
Can Too raises money for Cure Cancer Australia Foundation who fund brilliant young Australian scientists to pursue potential breakthrough cancer research. Since 2005, they have trained over 1,000 people to swimming and running glory. This has raised $1.6 million for Cure Cancer Australia and funded 21 researchers.
To sponsor me please visit www.cantoo.org.au before 15 September 2008, click on sponsor a participant, and type in my last name.
How much should you give? What about twice my age? What you’d spend on a nice bottle of wine? $10 per kilometre? The choice is yours. But the person who sponsors me with the highest amount can have their name/logo on my running vest for some top publicity. All donations over $2 are tax deductible.
I know you’re all very busy but this is important. The treatment I received for breast cancer was significantly better than it would have been 5 years ago. By investing in research now, should any member of your family be unlucky enough to be diagnosed with cancer, their treatment will be even more effective. You may even help to find a cure in our lifetime. What price can you put on that?
Thank you so much for supporting me. If you have any questions, just email or call me.
Yours in training,
Nikki

Re: Pounding the pavements
Hi there,
We all lead busy lives so I thought I’d send you a reminder that you can still sponsor me for the Sydney Running Festival on Sunday 21 September.
I’d love to reach my target of raising a minimum of $1,600 for the Cure Cancer Foundation and with your help, I know I can do it.
Training is going really well. The camaraderie really helps when getting up at 5.30am on cold, dark mornings. The trainers are really supportive and all their hard work is voluntary.
There are two groups of about 25 people doing the 9km training, and I’m towards the back of the fastest group. But considering many of them are young enough to be my children, I don’t think I’m doing too badly. If anything, they’re rather nervous of my steely determination.
While you’re tucked up in bed fast asleep tomorrow morning, think of me pounding the pavements and give that credit card of yours a pounding too. All the funds raised go towards providing more cancer research.
Please visit www.cantoo.org.au before 15August 2008, click on sponsor a participant, and type in my last name. I get an email from the organisers about who has sponsored me so I know if I have reached my goal.
Yours in heavy training,
Nikki
THANK YOU EMAIL:
3 days to go to the Sydney Half Marathon...and I am ready !
For those who thought I wouldn't make it (one was me) get ready to eat your words.
To those supporters and my sponsors thank you. Thanks to you the Cure Cancer charity is over $3000 better off and our training group has raised $150,000 which has funded two additional researchers.
For me, I have proved gnomes can run (even with shin splints) and whilst I can't say I am now one of those people who love running I would like to announce the following achievements. Based on my objectives from the start
I am no longer a pensioner when it comes to fitness age
I don't get puffed walking to the mail box
Not only can I run, I actually think a 6km run is a short distance
The only objective I am yet to achieve is finding an easy way out of the run and whilst I still have two days I am actually looking forward to finishing.
So once I recover from my run on Sunday and can walk to the computer I will give you my final update.
For those of you who have withheld sponsorship to see if I make the distance without passing away. Get your credit cards ready...

This is a great cause.
Thanks again, stay tuned for the results
