How is Can Too connected to Cure Cancer Australia?
Cure Cancer Australia and Can Too have a partnership. All of the money raised from Can Too participants goes directly to Cure Cancer Australia, for funding of cancer research projects. Each year, the funds raised for and/or by Cure Cancer Australia go directly to brilliant young researchers to enable them to pursue their potential breakthrough cancer research, for a period of one year. We are only able to achieve this due to the generosity of the Macquarie Group Foundation; our Principal Supporter.

How much money do I have to raise?

Can Too is not just about getting fit, meeting a great bunch of people and achieving personal goals beyond your wildest dreams, it’s also about finding a cure for cancer.

Part of the motivation for joining Can Too is the drive to give back to the community. In this case, it is to raise money for Cure Cancer Australia, to fund cancer research.

We set fundraising goals for all our participants:

    CAN TOO RUN:
Run 42km: 20 week training program: Raise $2,000
Run 21km: 14 week training program: Raise $1,250
Run 10km: 10 week training program: Raise $800

    CAN TOO SWIM:
    Swim 2.7k, 2k, 1k: 12 week training program - Raise $1,250

How will I raise that money?
Don’t be nervous about achieving your fundraising goal! Just like you will be proud of your ability to do distance running or swimming, you will also be amazed and proud of the support you receive from the people in your life to raise money to support Cure Cancer.

We will give you tips and ideas to achieve your fundraising goals. Team mates will also share fundraising ideas with you.
What are Can Too Training Programs like?

Your level of experience and fitness when you join a training program will determine which event you train for - some people will need more time to train for an event than others and some people prefer to participate in different distances. Training programs start on set dates, as they are specifically planned to provide you with safe and effective training leading up to an event.

At your first training session we will provide you with a day-by-day training guide for your training program. This program should be followed as closely as you can: It will not only help ensure that you make the distance, but do so injury-free.
The whole program is geared to attending the two sessions per week - Wednesday evening and Saturday morning.

Throughout the remainder of the week you will be doing cross training and core strength work to make sure that you have what it takes to reach your goal. This will only take ½ to 1 hour out of your day. It’s that simple! Follow the program for the Run or Swim of Your Life!!

What happens to the money raised?
All of the proceeds of Can Too fundraising go directly to Cure Cancer Australia, to support breakthrough cancer research. During 2007 we  funded FIVE researchers:  Dr Matthew Naylor from the Garvan Institute of Medical Research (breast cancer); Dr Kirsten Hammond from the University of Sydney (skin cancer); Dr Tao Liu from Children's Cancer Institute Australia (Neuroblastoma in children); Dr Graham Ball from the University of New South Wales (new drug design); and Dr Megan Fabbro from Children's Medical Reserach Institute (understanding cell division in cancer). During 2008 we are funding many more researchers. We have currently funded 29 researchers in many different areas of cancer research.

What level of fitness do I need to join a Can Too Program?

Can Too is a non-profit program that matches fitness incentives with a good cause! Beginners and experienced athletes alike are given professional coaching as part of a team to participate in a running or ocean swimming endurance event. In return, participants raise sponsorship dollars that go directly towards funding Australian scientists working in cancer research through Cure Cancer Australia.

Can Too Run is for people at all fitness and experience levels who are able to train for their goals in a fun, safe and supportive environment. We will not only provide you a daily training guide but experts give information about nutrition, injury prevention and race strategy, and of course, the work of Cure Cancer Australia Foundation.

What is the relationship between Can Too, Cure Cancer and the Macquarie Group Foundation?

Can Too operates in partnership with Cure Cancer Australia and the Macquarie Group Foundation.
All monies raised by Can Too are directed towards Cure Cancer Australia to fund brilliant young researchers in their project work to find a cure for cancer. During 2007, 5 Can Too Researchers will be supported by funds raised from Can Too.  Dr Mathew Naylor at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research will be working on finding a cure for breast cancer.  Dr Kirsten Hammond will be working in the area of skin cancer at the University of Sydney, and Dr Tao Liu from the Children's Cancer Institute Australia will be researching Neuroblastoma, the commonest solid tumour of early childhood.

As a result of our 2007 Can Too Swim program, we have now raised enough money to fund an additional 3 and a half Can Too researchers. All money raised by Can Too is able to be directed straight to the Cure Cancer Foundation due to the generosity of our founding partner and principal supporter – the Macquarie Group Foundation.
